About Ida Bjørnholt Karlsson and her project:

My background is in geology at Copenhagen University, where I have taken a mixture of classic geology courses and hydrology/hydrogeology courses. As I am enrolled at the 4+4 PhD scheme I started my PhD directly after the first master courses. The title of my PhD project is Assessment of the effect of climate change on the hydrological cycle; the project is a part of Work Block 3 in cooperation with GEUS and Copenhagen University.

The aim of the PhD project is to assess key changes in the hydrological regime (stream hydrology, recharge and groundwater level) in a future climate caused by changes in seasonality and dynamics of precipitation and evaporation. The consequences of these impacts are evaluated first by the analysis of historical data and secondly by simulating and analyzing future data. Simulation is done using different hydrological models, land use and climate scenarios to evaluate the future climate change effect in terms of changes in floods, droughts and overflow, and to assess uncertainties in these projections. This will then lead to a hydrological contribution for an integrated agricultural-hydrological-ecological analysis of climate change effects in Odense River Basin.
